Quand vient le temps de refendre une pièce de bois exactement en deux, un tel guide est tout à fait approprié puisque les tiges (goujons) suivent les côtés de la pièce alors que le crayon trace la ligne du centre (photo du haut). Mais comment s’assurer que cette ligne soit tout à fait centrée. Je n’oserais pas mesurer et percer les trous pour faire ce guide à main levée. Voici mon truc pour y parvenir:
Tel que montré sur la photo du bas, mettre en serre une planche sur la table de la perceuse à colonne et percer un premier trou de même diamètre que le crayon à utiliser plus tard avec le guide, et ce en même temps dans le guide et la planche, au centre. Ensuite, placer le crayon dans ces trous (pour servir de pivot) et déplacer l’ensemble pour percer un trou de 1/4″ à une extrémité du guide (photo du bas). Sans déplacer la planche, faire pivoter le guide à 180° afin de percer l’autre extrémité. De la même façon, faire deux autres trous plus près du crayon afin d’obtenir un guide plus polyvalent. Coller des goujons de 1/4″ dans les quatre trous extérieurs, comme montré sur la photo de gauche. Avant de commencer, tracer une ligne centrale sur le guide afin d’aligner les cinq trous. Pour plus de flexibilité, des guides de différentes longueurs peuvent être fabriqués.

When comes time to resaw or rip a board at dead center, this guide is quite a useful helper since the sticks (dowels) follow the edges of the board while the pencil draws the center line (top photo). But how to be sure the center line will be centered. I wouldn’t rely on measuring and drilling appropriate holes by hand. Here’s a tip on how you can achieve that.
As shown on the bottom photo, clamp a backer board on the drill press table and drill a first hole the same diameter of the pencil you will be using with the jig, simultaneously in the guide and the backer board, on center. Then, place the pencil in the holes (to act as pivot) and move the whole assembly to drill a 1/4″ hole at one end of the guide (bottom photo). Without moving the backer board, spin the guide 180° and drill the same hole at the other end. In the same manner, you may drill two more holes closer to the pencil to get a more versatile guide. Glue 1/4″ dowels in the four exterior holes, as shown on the top photo. Before you start, draw a center line on the guide so the five holes will be in line to each other. For more flexibility, you may build more guides having different length.
