Building a Saw Till #2 Réaliser un support mural pour scies

Pour soutenir les montants lors de l’assemblage, j’utilise mes équerres d’assemblage maison, un dispositif simple et pratique.

To hold the uprights straight while assembling, I’m using my homemade assembly brackets, a simple and handy device.

Je commence par coller et visser l’assise.

I’m starting by gluing and screwing the sitting cleat.

Mon embout pivotant est ici très pratique dans cet endroit serré.

Here my pivoting bit driver is quite handy in this tight area.

Un serre-joint sécurise le joint à une extrémité alors qu’un tasseau parallèle est temporairement installé pour maintenir la carcasse d’équerre.

A clamp secures the joint at one end while a temporary parallel cleat is installed to keep the carcass square.

Cet autre tasseau écarte légèrement les côtés pour que j’y glisse le panneau arrière dont les côtés sont enduits de colle. Et je procède au vissage.

This other cleat slightly spreads the sides apart so I could slip the back panel on which glue has been applied on its sides. And I proceed driving the screws.

Pour niveler le panneau arrière aux côtés, j’utilise cette toupie (défonceuse) munie d’une fraise à effleurer à roulement à billes.

To even out the back panel with the sides, I’m using this router outfitted with a top bearing flush trim bit.

J’arrondis les arêtes de façade et je marque ce 2 X 3 où couper partiellement pour y insérer les lames.

I’m rounding over the front edges and I mark where to partly cut this 2 X 3 to slip the blades in.

Mon guide à onglets amélioré me fournit un support ajustable et sécuritaire pour faire des traits de scie précis au band de scie.

My improved miter gauge provides a safe and adjustable support to make precise kerfs at the table saw.

J’indique clairement où percer pour éviter de visser dans les traits de scie.

I clearly mark where to drill to prevent from driving screws into the saw kerfs.

Après avoir percé de l’intérieur, je fraise depuis l’arrière.

After drilling from the inside, I countersink from the back.

Voici mon installation pour maintenir la pièce pendant que je j’enfonce les vis par l’arrière.

Here’s my setup to hold the piece steady while I drive the screws from behind.

J’ai façonné deux tasseaux courbés pour embellir mon support. Pourquoi pas ?

I milled two curved cleats to embellish my till. Why not ?

Celui-ci, en bas, repose vis-à-vis la base de l’assise, la courbe vers le bas.

This one, the lower, sits in line with the bottom of the sitting cleat, curve down.

Le deuxième est du côté opposé, la courbe vers le haut.

The second sits at the opposite end, curve up.

Je mesure la distance entre le plafond et le tasseau biseauté déjà installé au mur afin de coller et visser (d’équerre) la pièce d’accouplement derrière le support (droite), ainsi qu’un tasseau niveleur situé au bas (gauche).

I measure the distance between the ceiling and the beveled cleat (French cleat) already installed to the wall to glue and screw (square) the mating part on the back (right), as well as a leveling cleat at the bottom (left).

I’m getting ready to apply a coat of yellow shellac.

Grâce à mes supports maison, je peux y déposer mon projet et appliquer immédiatement une couche à l’intérieur.

Using my homemade standoffs on which I can drop my project on, I can go ahead and apply a coat on the inside at once.

Une fois sec, je ponce légèrement avec un tampon pour adoucir le fini.

Once dry, I slightly sand it with a sanding pad to smooth out the finish.

Building a Saw Till #1 Réaliser un support mural pour scies

Je coupe ces traits de scie pour estimer la largeur requise pour ma collection de scies à main.

I’m making saw kerfs to estimate the required width for my collection of hand saws.

Trop d’espace entre les scies, donc trop large.

Too much space between the saws, therefore too wide.

Beaucoup mieux ! Je connais maintenant la largeur intérieure de mon support, 16-1/2″.

Much better ! Now I know the inside width of my support, 16-1/2″.

Il est facile de réaliser des coupes précises. Il ne s’agit que de prendre le temps de bien régler l’outil !

It is easy to make precise cuts. You only have to take the time to set the tool properly !

Pour couper une extrémité d’équerre, rien de tel que mon coupe panneau. Je ne pourrais plus m’en passer !

To square one end, nothing beats my panel cutter. I couldn’t live without it !

Une butée (flèche) m’assure que ces trois pièces seront de même longueur.

A stop (arrow) ensures that those three pieces will be the same length.

Ici je fais quelques tests afin de fabriquer un patron pour ajouter une courbe gracieuse aux côtés (mon gabarit pour trace des courbes).

Here I’m making few tests to make a template to add a gracious curve to the sides (my curve drawing jig).

J’unis mes côtés avec des agrafes avant de me diriger à la scie à ruban.

I’m using staples to gather the sides before heading to the band saw.

Afin de pouvoir percer avec un foret Forstner, j’utilise une chute pour supporter le foret et bien réaliser les encoches.

I’m using a scrap to provide full support while using a Forstner bit to mill the nests.

Et j’arrondis les arêtes à cette table à toupie dédiée (défonceuse) toujours équipée d’une fraise à arrondir de 1/4″.

Then I round over the edges using a 1/4″ rounding over bit already set in this dedicated router table.

Le ponçage final avant l’assemblage.

J’utilise une ébarbeuse (affleureuse) avec une fraise à quart de rond de 1/8″ pour arrondir les arêtes extérieures.

I’m using a trim router outfitted with a 1/8″ rounding over bit to round over the outer edges.

Ma ponceuse verticale maison me permet de poncer les courbes des assises aisément.

My homemade spindle sander allows me to easily sand the curved sitting nests.

Je finalise le ponçage avec ces minces tampons de ponçage.

Remarquez l’utilisation du goujon pour les courbes serrées !

I complete the sanding with those thin sanding pads.

Notice the use of a dowel for the tight curves !

Here I’m determining the exact location of the sitting cleat.

Je vais réaliser la majorité de l’assemblage avec des vis cachées, de là l’utilisation de ce plus gros gabarit.

I will make the assembly mostly with pocket hole screws, therefore the use of this larger jig.

Le panneau arrière sera vissé à l’intérieur des côtés.

The back panel will be screwed into the inner sides.

Ici je détermine et je trace l’emplacement final de l’assise, incluant un retrait de 3/4″.

Here I’m determining and tracing the final location of the sitting cleat, including a 3/4″ recess.
