Je procède maintenant à la mise en place des sièges qui recevront les manches des ciseaux à bois. Quand j’ai commencé ce projet, il était très important que je détermine des dimensions de la base selon le nombre de sièges que je prévoyais utiliser.

I now proceed to install the cups that will receive the handles of my turning tools. When I started this project, it was very important to determine the dimensions of the base according to the number of cups I was going to use.

À la perceuse à colonne j’aligne le foret avec le fond de ce support en V. Soit dit en passant, ce dernier est souvent utile à la perceuse à colonne et à la scie à ruban.

At the drill press I align the drill bit to the bottom of this V support jig. By the way, this jig is often usefull at the drill press and the band saw.

Ce support me permet de tenir et de percer les tubes de plastique de façon sécuritaire et précise.

This support jig allows me to hold and drill the plastic pipes safely and precisely.

Après avoir percé le premier trou, j’ai installé une butée pour l’uniformité. En un deuxième temps, j’installe ce plus gros foret dans le mandrin pour percer ces trous vis à vis les précédents, plus petits.

After drilling the first hole, I installed a stop block for uniformity. In a second step, I install this larger drill bit in the chuck to drill larger holes facing the previous smaller holes.

Tel que montré sur la photo, le grand trou sert à insérer le tournevis afin d’enfoncer la vis à travers le petit trou. Ici on peut comprendre pourquoi j’avais besoin de supports solides sous la tablette fixe inférieure.

As shown on the picture, the larger hole is to get the screwdriver in to drive the screw through the smaller hole. Here it’s easy now to understand why I needed solid supports under the lower fix shelf.

J’ai bloqué les deux bases avec une cale et un serre-joint pour empêcher le Lasy Susan de tourner pendant la pause des sièges.

I blocked the two bases using a shim and a clamp to prevent the Lasy Susan from spinning while I install the cups.

Ne pouvant visser les sièges des coins, je les colle sur ceux adjacents.

Since I can’t screw the corner cups, I glue them to the adjacent ones.

Since the base is square as well as the tower, I drew diagonal lines to center the tower on the base.

From under, I screw the upper part of the base under the tower.

Pour aligner la partie de la base ayant le Lasy Susan avec celle vissée sous la tour, j’utilise ces deux petites équerres.

To align the part of the base that has the Lasy Susan to the one screwed under the tower, I’m using these two squares.

Une fois alignée, je pivote doucement cette seconde base pour visser toutes les vis du Lasy Susan dans l’autre partie de la base à travers le grand trou.

Once aligned, I slowly spin this second base to drive all the screws of the Lasy Susan in the other part of the base through the large hole.

Et ça marche, ou plutôt, ça tourne !

And it works, I mean spins!

Ensuite je trouve et je poinçonne le centre de la façade de chacun des tiroirs.

Then I find and punch the centre of each drawer fronts.

J’ai choisi une quincaillerie Lasy Susan de 6’’ pour faire pivoter la base de la tour. J’ai coupé deux carrés de contreplaqué et, après avoir arrondi les coins à la ponceuse à disque, j’adouci tous les rebords avec la toupie à ébarber et un fer à arrondi de 1/8’’.

I chose a 6’’ Lasy Susan hardware to get the tower spinning. I cut two square pieces of plywood and, after rounding over the corners at the disk sander, I smooth all edges with a trim router and a 1/8’’ round over bit.

Pour faciler l’installation, j’ai fait des lignes diagonales et j’aligne les quatre coins du Lasy Susan, tel que montré.

To help with the installation, I drew diagonal lines and I align the four corners of the Lasy Susan, as shown.

De ces mêmes quatre coins, j’indique où poinçonner pour localiser les vis.

From those same four corners, I mark where to punch for the screws.

I rotate the upper part of the Lasy Susan to mark where to drill a large hole to get a screwdriver through to screw the second plywood base.

The large hole being drilled, now I can screw the hardware under the top part of the plywood base.

I screw some feet under the lower part of the plywood base so I can slip my fingers under to move or manipulate the tower.

Après avoir coupé des languettes pour faire des supports horizontaux pour supporter mes ciseaux de tournage, j’utilise un foret Forstner pour faire des cavités qui recevront plus tard des aimants. Encore une fois, j’utilise une butée pour l’uniformité.

After cutting strips to make horizontal supports to hold my turning tools, I’m using a Forstner bit to counterbore for rare-earth magnets. Once again, I’m using a stop block for uniformity.

Les longs supports sont installés sur les côtés et vissés dans la tablette fixe centrale et celle du dessus. Je centre et je mets d’équerre chacun d’entre eux.

The long supports are installed on the sides and screwed in the middle shelf and the top. I’m squaring and I centering each of them.

The central supports are placed so the drawer will slide slightly over. Here I’m using a scrap to align the support properly.

The sides are glued and pin nailed between the face and the back.

I use this square jig to align the pieces being slippery because of the glue.

J’étends un peu de colle pour le fond. Ce tiroir est l’un des deux qui glissent sur les tablettes fixes.

I spread a little amount of glue for the bottom. This drawer is one of two that will slide on the fix shelves.

À gauche j’utilise une cale qui aligne et maintient le fond du tiroir à la distance appropriée du gabarit d’équerre le temps que je le colle et le cloue.

On the left I use a shim to align and hold the bottom of the drawer at the appropriate distance against my square jig while I glue and nail it.

Ne vous avais-je pas promis une tour ? Les papiers empêcheront les tiroirs de coller les uns aux autres si jamais des gouttes de colle tombaient ou débordaient.

Didn’t I promise you a tower? The paper sheets will prevent the drawers from sticking one to another if any glue drops would fall or squeeze out.
