This article follows the one publish for my Dual Tilting Router Table Fence.
Je commence par fabriquer un petit gabarit de carton qui me servira de fenêtre pour localiser des profils intéressants de mes fraises. En pivotant le gabarit je verrai tous les profils possibles.
Je devrai en fabriquer un pour chaque épaisseur de planche que je vais utiliser, ici 3/4″ (18mm).
I’m starting by making a small cardboard jig which will provide a window to locate interesting profiles from my router bits. Pivoting the jig will allow me to see all possible profiles.
I will have to make one for each stock thickness I will use, here 3/4″ (18mm).
Voici deux exemples avec cette fraise ronde de 1″ (25mm). Le profil recherché est toujours celui en arrière plan, le plus foncé, raison pour laquelle j’ai utilisé du carton pâle.
Here are two samples from this 1″ (25mm) round nose bit. The profile I’m after is always the one on the background, the dark one, reason why I used pale cardboard.
J’installé la fraise ronde dans la table de toupie et j’incliné le guide pour obtenir le profil montré.
I’ve installed the round nose bit in the router table and I tilted the fence to get the shown profile.
Puisque je n’apprécie pas cette pointe fine, je déplace le guide et j’ajuste la hauteur de la fraise pour faire une seconde passe.
Since I don’t like this sharp tip, I move the fence and I set the height of the bit to make a second pass.
Un troisième ajustement et une troisième passe pour un profil plus attrayant.
Je suis en affaire !
A third adjustment and a third pass for a more attractive profile.

Voici une doucine romaine pour réaliser une moulure.
Here is a roman ogee to mill a molding.
En pivotant le gabarit je peux trouver le profil désiré.
By pivoting the jig I’m able to find the desired profile.
J’utilise ce gabarit pour temporairement retirer le roulement à billes, celui-ci étant une nuisance pour la coupe (celui de la fraise montée auparavant était coincé).
I’m using this jig to temporarily remove the bearing, which is a nuisance for the cut (the one on the previously shown bit was jammed).
J’ai du changé de table à toupie, l’ouverture de l’autre étant trop petite pour cette fraise.
I had to change router table, the opening on the other being too narrow for this bit.
Après la coupe, voici le profil que j’obtiendrai. La pièce sera glissée dans cette position, toujours de droite à gauche.
After the cut, here is the profile I will get. The workpiece will glide in this position, always right to left.
Après la coupe je réalise que j’ai encore une pointe qui m’agace.
After the cut I realise I still have a fine tip that bothers me.
Je l’ai enlevée au banc de scie.
I removed it at the table saw.
La moulure coupée, je peux faire une autre passe pour obtenir une autre moulure identique.
The molding being cut, I can make another pass to get another identical molding.
Après avoir réalisé une seconde moulure, j’ai pivoté la pièce bout pour bout pour faire une passe du côté opposé (la fine pointe a également été enlevée au banc de scie). Le résultat est un autre profil avec la même fraise et la même installation !
After milling a second molding, I pivoted the piece end for end to make a pass on the oppose side (the fine tip has also been removed at the table saw). The result is another profile done with the same bit and the same setup !
Deux moulures ayant des profils différents, mais réalisées avec une seule fraise et un seul ajustement du guide.
Two moldings featuring two different profiles, but milled using a single router bit and a single fence setup.
