À l’aide d’une règle à dessiner flexible, j’ai tracé deux pieds qui me plaisent. Après avoir jeté un œil dans un livre Shaker, j’ai choisi le numéro 2, lequel est plus approprié au style. La flèche indique que l’empattement aura un rayon de 7-1/2″ (19cm).
Using a flexible drawing ruler, I traced two legs that please me. After checking in a Shaker book, I chose number 2, which is more appropriate for the style. The arrow shows that the foot print radius will be 7-1/2″ (19cm).
Pour obtenir six pieds identiques, il valait la peine de fabriquer un gabarit. J’ai poncé le bord supérieur avec grand soin parce que tout défaut serait reproduit.
To get six identical legs, it was worth it to build a fixture. I sanded the upper edge with care because any default would be reproduced.
Je coupe les coins des six pieds selon les angles du gabarit. Pour une solidité accrue, notez que le grain du bois de tous les pieds est longitudinal.
I’m cutting the corners of the six legs according to the fixture. For greater strength, notice that the wood grain of all legs is lengthwise.
Je trace chaque pied dans le gabarit et je coupe près de la ligne à la scie à ruban.
I trace each leg in the fixture and I cut close to the line at the band saw.
Le résidu sera enlevé à la table à toupie (défonceuse) avec une fraise à copier.
Les sauterelles servent de poignées, bien éloignées de la fraise.
The remaining will be removed at the router table with a pattern bit.
The toggle clamps act as handles, far away from the bit.
Le roulement roule sur le gabarit et les couteaux font le travail.
En passant, plus le diamètre de la fraise est grand, plus douce est la coupe. Celle-ci fait 1-1/8″ (3cm) de diamètre.
The bearing rides against the fixture and the cutters do the job.
By the way, the larger the diameter of the bit, the smoother the cut. This one is 1-1/8″ (3cm) in diameter.

J’ai reproduit le dessous des pieds de l’autre bord du gabarit.

Les pieds dans le gabarit, je trace et je coupe à la scie à ruban, en laissant les lignes.

Tel que montré par les traits de crayon, cette fois-ci le grain du bois est contre moi.
Parce qu’il n’y a pas beaucoup de matière en enlever, je vais alimenter la partie courbée à l’inverse, soit de gauche à droite (bien concentre), et la partie rectiligne pourra être dirigée normalement de droite à gauche. Notez le sens de la rotation de la fraise (flèche).
As shown by the pencil marks, this time the wood grain is against me.

Ayant remarqué que la planche d’un pied était fendue, je dois en réaliser un autre. Alors j’utilise un pied pour tracer une autre planche et je fais la coupe à la scie à ruban, toujours en laissant la ligne.

Cette fois-ici il est plus efficient d’utiliser du ruban double face pour tailler le périmètre à la table à toupie.

Compte tenu de ce qui précède, je vais ajouter des goujons par mesure de prévention. De plus, cela ajoutera au design !
Toutes les cales en coin que j’accumule sont souvent utiles (flèches).

The wedges that I gather are often handy (arrows).
J’aime bien ces bâtonnets alimentaires pour étendre la colle dans les petits trous.

Une fois la colle sèche, je coupe les goujons presqu’à ras à la scie à ruban et ensuite je ponce à la ponceuse verticale.
Once the glue dry, I cut the dowels almost flush at the band saw and I sand at the spindle sander.
Le résultat est tellement délicat que j’aurais pu percer au travers des pieds pour les montrer depuis le dessus !
The result is so delicate that I could have drilled through the legs to show them from the top !
Maintenant je ponce les deux faces.
