To make new sofa legs for a friend couple, I’m using those chair legs salvaged from another friend couple.
Une fois coupé à longueur désirée, j’ai trouvé et poinçonné leur centre.
Once cut to desired length, I found and punched their center.
Après avoir foré un trou au diamètre de la base du pied dans une chute (flèche), j’ai utilisé un long foret pour le centrer au mandrin avant de l’assujettir sur la table de la perceuse à colonne.
After drilling a hole the same diameter as the base of the leg (arrow), I used a long drill bit to center it with the chuck before adding a clamp.
Une telle installation assure un forage perpendiculaire.
Such setup ensures perpendicular boring.
Un chanfrein pour faciliter la prise d’un boulon-vis.
A chamfer for the easy grip of a hanger bolt.
Il faut bloquer deux écrous ensemble pour enfoncer le boulon-vis.
Two nuts must be locked together to drive the hanger bolt in.
Les pieds étant de bois dur, j’étends la cire de chandelle sur les filets.
The legs being hardwood, I’m adding candle wax onto the fillets.
Et un coup de marteau pour agripper a prise de départ.
And I hit with a hammer to get a good starting grip.
Il ne reste qu’à enfoncer, et ensuite dégager les deux écrous en utilisant les deux clés.
Then it’s a manner of driving, and then releasing the nuts using two wrenches.
Et dire que la couleur est quasi identique aux pieds originaux.
That’s done, the color is almost identical to the original legs.
