From Turning Failure to Success / De l’échec au succès

J’ai souvent regardé mon plat à bonbons raté et j’ai finalement trouvé des solutions.

J’ai rempli la fissure de poussière de sciure et de la colle CA (flèche), je vais réduire le diamètre du fond (cercle) ainsi que refaçonner la courbe des côtés.

I often looked at my messed candy dish and I finally found solutions.

I filled the crack with saw dust and CA glue (arrow), I will reduce the diameter of the bottom (circle) as well as reshape the sides’ curve.

J’ai pris soin de renforcer les filets du trou avec la colle CA.

I took care of reinforcing the hole threads with CA glue.

Puisque déjà excavé, je n’ai plus besoin de la cale de contreplaqué.

Since already excavated, I don’t need the plywood shim.

La seule méthode que je vois pour finir l’excavation est de me tourner (sans jeu de mots) vers mon super ruban double face de tourneur.

The only method I see to complete the excavation is to turned (no pun intended) to my super duper turner’s double-side tape.

J’utilise le pistolet chauffant pour activer la colle du ruban et pour réchauffer le plateau de montage afin qu’ils puissent se connecter efficacement.

I’m using a heat gun to activate the tape glue and to heat up the face plate so they will connect properly.

J’applique une pression pour maximiser la prise le temps d’aller faire marcher le chien.

I’m applying pressure to maximize the grip while I walk the dog.

En dévissant le plat, la poupée mobile se déplace.

By unscrewing the dish, the tailstock retracts.

Je dois niveler le centre pour bien centrer la contrepointe.

I must flatten the center to properly center the life center.

Pour excaver le plus délicatement possible et ainsi maximiser mes chances de réussite, je vais utiliser cet outil au carbure de 12 mm (7/16″).

To excavate as delicately as possible and to maximize my chances of success, I will use this 12 mm (7/16″) carbide tool.

Ça fonctionne bien et maintenant je dois retirer la poupée mobile pour terminer l’excavation.

It works well and now I must withdraw the tailstock to complete the excavation.

Voici le trou initial, et par chance il reste encore 1/4″ (6 mm) pour le fond.

Here is the initial hole, and luckily a 1/4′ (6 mm) still remains for the bottom.

J’ai terminé au racloir et je ne peux faire mieux dans la partie la plus cotie. Voyons voir avec le ponçage.

I finished with a scraper and I can’t do better on the most spalted area. Let’s see with the sanding.

J’étends le fini avec une brosse à dents (flèche) pour bien remplir les pores.

I’m spreading the finish with a tooth brush (arrow) to fill the pores well.

J’ai aussitôt enlevé l’excès avec un chiffon (noir).

I wiped the excess with a rag (black) at once.

Le plat en rotation, je polis avec un papier brun grossier et ensuite avec un chiffon doux (pensez T-shirt).

Pas mal comme fini !

The dish spinning, I buff with heavy brown paper and then with a soft rag (think T-shirt).

Not bad as a finish!

Une poussée ferme mais lente avec la paume de la main et le plat se dégage.

A firm but slow push with the palm of my hand and the dish disconnects.

Deux couches, un peu de patience, un peu de délicatesse, un peu d’habileté, un peu d’inspiration, et voici un plat à bonbons, disons récupéré et réussi.

A bit of patience, a bit of softness, a bit of skill, a bit of inspiration, and here is a candy dish, let’s say recovered and successful.

Maintenant, quel est donc ce produit de finition que j’utilise pour la première fois ?

Pensez inspiration, car il est nouveau pour moi ! En passant, j’ai appliqué deux couches et les dimensions sont 5″ par 1-1/4″ (13 cm par 3 cm).

Now, what is that finish product that I’m using for the first time?

Think inspiration, because it is new for me! By the way, I applied two coasts and the dimensions are 5″ by 1-1/4″ (13 cm by 3 cm).
