Je m’apprête à découper un cercle dans cette bûche pour tourner un bol, une bonne occasion pour essayer une technique qui m’est passée par l’esprit dernièrement.
I’m getting to cut a circle out of this log for turning, a great occasion to try a technique that came across my mind lately.
Normalement je percerais un trou au centre afin d’utiliser mon gabarit coupe cercle maison (lien), mais ici j’y dépose un tapis antidérapant.
Normally I would drill a center hole to use my homemade band saw circle cutting jig (link), but here I’m dropping an antiskid pad.
Ensuite, une table pivotante, ou Lazy Susan.
Then, a spinning table, or Lazy Susan.
Un autre tapis antidérapant. La flèche indique le bord le plus près, où doit être localisée la lame de scie.
Another antiskid pad. The arrow indicates the closest edge, where must be located the saw blade.
Le tout est déposé sur la table de la scie de façon à ce que la lame touche à peine la pièce.
The whole assembly is dropped onto the saw table so the blade just barely touches the workpiece.
À la fin de la coupe, j’ai constaté que la bûche s’est déplacée un tantinet, signifiant que j’aurais dû porter un peu plus attention lors du pivotement, ou que j’aurais aussi dû utiliser une lame de scie plus étroite, celle-ci étant 1/2″ (12 mm).
At the end of the cut, I noticed the log shifted a bit, meaning that I should have been more attentive while pivoting it, or that I should have used a narrower blade, this one being 1/2″ (12 mm).
Cette technique sera assurément très utile dans certaines situations ou projets.
Such technique will definitely be quite handy for some situations or projects.

Serge, that’s a great idea using the Lazy Susan. I’m wondering how you got the log flat enough to sit on it securely.

Hi Mark, Here I was lucky since the individual who cut the tree made a nice flat cut with his chain saw, otherwise I would have used wedges if it would have been slightly uneven.
Other than that, there are few great band saw cutting jigs I made which I could use too.
You know me by now, I always look for a solution!

Il faut toujours tester de nouvelles choses On a parfois des surprises ( des bonnes surprises !!) Il se peut aussi que ton plateau tournant ( lazy susan) ai un petit décalage non ?
Une affaire à suivre comme on dit !!! n’est ce pas ..

Did you think of using double sided tape between the lazy susan and the piece of wood?
Avez-vous songé à utiliser du ruban adhésif double face entre la pièce de bois et le plateau rotatif?

No, I didn’t. It was my first attempt and I found out the technique must be fine tuned.
More test to be done.
