Alors que je parcourais les allées de la quincaillerie, j’ai eu cette brillante idée quand j’ai vu les ensembles de 4 embouts de caoutchouc pour pattes chaises à $2.95 : Les utiliser à l’extrémité de goujons (tourillons) pour protéger mes doigts. J’ai choisi un paquet de 4 de 3/4’’ (18mm) de diamètre et me suis arrêté dans la section des goujons et j’en ai aussi pris un goujon de même diamètre.
Je dois avouer que je fus inspiré en voyant quelqu’un utiliser l’efface d’un crayon à mine pour garder ses doigts loin du danger, mais je n’ai jamais essayé car à mon avis une efface est trop fragile. De plus, la plupart de mes crayons ont perdu leur efface – brisée ou usée. Et honnêtement, la plupart de mes crayons sont assez courts !
While browsing at my local hardware store, I had this clever idea when I saw the 4-packs of chair leg rubber tips for $2.95 : Using them at the end of dowels as finger savers. I chose a 3/4″ (18mm) size 4-pack and stopped by the dowel department and I also picked up an appropriate diameter hardwood dowel.
I must admit that I was inspired by having seen someone using the eraser end of a pencil to keep his fingers away from the action, but I never tried because I thought the eraser would be too ‘fragile’. Moreover, most of my pencils have lost their eraser – worn out or chopped. And honestly, most of my pencils are quite shorts!

De retour à la maison j’ai coupé le goujon en quatre parties égales, arrondi l’extrémité de la partie ‘poignée’ à la ponceuse à disque et glissé les embouts à l’autre extrémité.
Back home I cut the dowel in four equal lengths, rounded over the ‘handle’ end at the disk sander and slipped the rubber leg tips at the business end.

J’en ai un au banc de scie, un à la scie radiale, un à la scie à ruban et un à ma station de scies à onglets pour garder mes doigts loin des lames coupantes.
I keep one at the table saw, one at the radial arm saw, one at the band saw and one at the miter saw station to keep my fingers away from the sharp spinning blades.

Dernière chose : Soyez certain d’acheter le modèle en caoutchouc, et non celui plus économique en plastique ou vinyle, lequel serait trop glissant.
One last thing: Be sure to buy the rubber leg tips, not the vinyl/plastic cheaper type, which would be slippery.
