Fast Digging with a Router / Excaver rapidement avec la toupie (défonceuse)

Comment excaver facilement et rapidement avec la toupie. Voici comment j’ai excavé pour deux toupies à installer dans deux tables à toupie.

How to easily and quickly dig with a router. Here’s how I digged for two routers to fit in two router tables.

Je vais démontrer comment ne pas finir dans cette situation lors de l’excavation.

I will demonstrate how not to end up in this situation while digging.

Je coupe ce morceau de Plexiglass de 5/16’’ (8mm) d’épaisseur que j’ai sous la main au banc de scie. Un coin étant déjà coupé, je l’ai préféré symétrique. J’ai choisi le Plexiglass afin de pouvoir suivre ma progression facilement.

I cut this piece of 5/16” (8mm) thick Plexiglass that I have on hand at the table saw. A corner having already been clipped off, I made it symetrical. I chose Plexiglass so I would follow my progress easily.

À la perceuse à colonne j’utilise un foret Forstner de 1’’ (2.5cm)  pour percer un trou au centre du Plexi. Ensuite j’installe un guide à gabarit de 1’’ (2.5cm) sur ma toupie.

At the drill press I’m using a 1” (2.5cm) Forstner bit to bore a hole in the center of the Plexi. Then I install a 1” (2.5cm) guide bushing in my router.

Le périmètre a été creusé préalablement avec un compas pour toupie (défonceuse).

The perimeter has already been digged with a router trammel.

Avec des mouvements de va-et-vient je fais facilement et rapidement l’excavation du centre. Un guide de gabarit plus long, que je vais certainement utiliser la prochaine fois, empêcherait de glisser au-delà du périmètre.

Making back and forth motions I easily and quickly dig the center. A deeper guide bushing, that I will definitely use next time, would prevent from slipping outside the perimeter.

Le fait que le Plexiglass soit coupé ainsi permet d’accéder plus loin entre deux serre-joints.

The fact that the Plexiglass is cut as it is allows to get further between two clamps.

Une dernière chose. Ce nouveau gabarit peut aussi être utilisé avec n’importe quelle toupie équipée d’un guide de gabarit de 1’’ (2.5cm). Nul besoin de faire une semelle pour chaque toupie.

One more thing. This new jig can also be used with any of my routers outfitted with a 1” (2.5cm) guide bushing. No need to make a sub-base for each router.
