Cela fait très longtemps que j’ai un tel projet en tête, pour, par exemple, couper des boulons et façonner des petites pièces de métal.
I’ve been thinking about such project for a long time to, as a sample, cut bolts and shape small metal pieces.
Je commence par coller un bloc de bois dur (chêne rouge) sur une chute de contreplaqué.
I’m starting by gluing a hardwood block (oak) on a plywood scrap.
Une fois la colle sèche, j’enfonce deux vis après avoir foré et fraisé des avant-trous.
Once the glue dry, I’m driving two screws after boring and chamfering pilot holes.
Je place une pointe à centrer les goujons (tourillons) dans le trou fileté pour la poignée situé derrière l’outil.
I slip a dowel centering pin in the handle threaded hole located in the back of the tool.
En appliquant une pression sur l’outil, la pointe fait une marque. Cette dernière indique l’endroit exact où forer pour un boulon.
By applying down pressure on the tool, the pin leaves a mark. This later shows exactly where to drill for a bolt.
Compte tenu que je n’ai pas de boulon au pas requis sous la main, j’en modifie un semblable.
Since I don’t have a suitable threaded bolt on hand, I modify a similar one.
Ensuite je fais un lamage pour caler et serrer le boulon.
Then I counterbore to bury and tighten the bolt.
Une fois l’outil monté sur la base de contreplaqué, je pince une mince latte de bois sur la meule de coupe afin de vérifier et déterminer le parallélisme en rapport avec le dessus de l’établi.
Once the tool mounted on the plywood base, I clamp a thin slat onto the cutting wheel to check and determine parallelism in relation with the workbench top surface.
En insérant et fixant cette cale (flèche), le parallélisme est établi.
By inserting and fastening this shim (arrow), parallelism in established.
Une bride vissée dans la base et l’outil est maintenant stable et sécuritaire.
En passant, puisque l’interrupteur est derrière l’outil, je l’ai laissé en position de marche et je vais utiliser mon interrupteur à pied maison ou une barre d’alimentation multiprise.
A clip screwed to the base and the tool is now stable and safe.
By the way, because the switch is behind the tool, I left it in the On position and I will use my homemade foot switch or an outlet power strip.
Je viens de constater que je dois modifier mon design. Pour obtenir une profondeur de coupe maximale, j’ai dû couper un coin du contreplaqué, tel que montré.
I just noticed that I must modify my design. To get maximum cut capacity, I had to clip off a corner of the plywood base, as shown.
Une autre modification à mon design est requise parce que je n’avais pas tenu compte du sens de rotation de l’outil. Je dois donc ajouter un autre bloc de bois dur (érable) du côté opposé.
Another modification is required to my design because I haven’t taken into account the tool rotation. Therefore I must add another hardwood block (maple) on the opposite side.
Pendant que la colle sèche, j’enlève les vis et je brise le joint de colle du premier bloc, ce qui fut aisé grâce au collage en bout de bois, lequel est plus faible. J’ai ensuite vissé la poignée de transport, tel que montré.
While the glue dries, I remove the screws and I break the first block glue joint, what was easy, thanks to the end grain glue joint, which is weaker. Then I’ve threaded the carrying handle.
Plus tard j’ai pu enlever le serre-joint, forer les avant-trous, et j’enfonce deux vis.
Later I was able to remove the clamp, drill pilot holes, and I’m driving two screws.
Ce dernier bloc de bois reçoit un fer angulaire (récupéré), lequel j’ai percé et fraisé. Notez qu’à main levée j’ai pu utilisé mon nouvel outil de coupe afin de faire la rainure pour la meule de coupe. N’est-ce pas formidable comme appui ou support ?
This later hardwood block receives an angle iron (salvaged), which I’ve drilled and countersunk. Take note that I was able to use my new cutting tool freehand to cut a slot for the cutting wheel. Isn’t that great as rest or support ?
Une fois la base sécurisée dans l’étau, mon coupe métaux est prêt à utiliser.
Once the base secured in the vise, my cutting tool is ready to use.
Pour faire un pas de plus, j’ai une fois encore utilisé mon nouvel outil pour faire une entaille dans cette coupe pour aimant terre-rare.
To make a step further, once again I’ve used my new tool to cut a notch in this rare-earth magnet cup.
J’ai fait un lamage et j’ai vissé la coupe, ce qui permet d’y ranger la clé, tel que montré.
I counterbored and I screwed the cup, what allows wrench storage, as shown.
Voici donc mon nouvel outil à ranger sur une tablette, ou au mur.
Here is my new tool to be stored on a shelf, or on a wall.
