For the ones who use their table saw blade guard, a L-shape auxiliary rip fence is a benefit.

When the rip fence is very close to the saw blade, the blade guard restrains the use of a push stick, which is also indispensable for optimum protection.

Even if the push stick can be used, sometimes you must manipulate it with your finger tips.

As shown on this last photo, such auxiliary fence allows for more possibilities as well as flexibility while still keeping the blade guard in place.

Although the blade guard is a very important feature, I, like many others, have long ago removed it and use my saw without it.
Frankly, I don’t even know where it is anymore.

I did too Eric, but mine is hanging just above the saw on a ceiling joist. When I was young and started woodworking I had a homemade table saw, and of course without a guard and got used to do without one.
But since last year I nicked my thumb on the saw blade (and that’s scary), I am more aware of the risk, if not danger. I just bought myself a new Dewalt DWE7480 Jobsite table saw and since it has a riving knife and split blade guard, I’m planning to leave them on all the time.

Be always careful my friend !
