Depuis longtemps j’accule ces pots de plastique (pensez compote de pommes) pour fabriquer des lanternes pour le jardin. Aujourd’hui toutefois j’ai une toute autre idée, pour mieux organiser mon atelier.
I’ve been accumulating plastic jars (think apple sauce) to make lanterns for the garden. However today I came up with an idea, getting my shop more organized.
Cette chute de Mélamine, sur laquelle j’ai tracé une grille, sera la base.
This Melamine scrap, on which I’ve drew a grid, will be the base.
Je coupe une partie de chaque pot à la scie à ruban, me servant du guide parallèle pour uniformité.
I’m cutting part of each jar at the band saw, using the rip fence for uniformity.
Je termine la coupe ici (flèche) afin de conserver la rainure courbée du pot pour la rigidité qu’elle procure.
I end the cut here (arrow) keeping the curved rib, thus the rigidity it provides.
La butée arrière m’assure une fois encore l’uniformité.
Once again, the back stop ensures uniformity.
J’ai vite constaté que l’utilisation de gants caoutchoutés procure une manipulation précise et sécuritaire.
I soon realized that using rubbery cloves provides precise and safe handling.
Après avoir réajusté le guide parallèle, je coupe l’excédent, soit presque la moitié des pots.
After resetting the rip fence, I cut the excess, what is about half of the jars.
Mes 24 pots deviendront 24 casiers de rangement.
My 24 jars will become 24 storage bins.
Et l’excédent sera jeté au bac de recyclage municipal (à moins que je leur trouve une utilité !).
And the excess will be thrown in the city recycling bin (unless I find a use for it !).
J’avais tracé la grille pour faciliter le centrage des couvercles, lesquels je perce et je visse.
I’ve traced the grid to ease centering the lids, which I punch and screw.
Ensuite des trous sont percés et fraisés pour le fixer au mur.
Then holes are drilled and countersunk to attach it to the wall.
Du travail de précision, comme d’habitude !

Fixé au mur, à côté de la scie radiale, sous mon armoire à tiroirs verticaux.
Le nombre de pots et les dimensions de la base ont été déterminés par cet emplacement.
Attached to the wall, beside the radial arm saw, under my vertical drawer cabinet.
The number of jars as well as the base dimensions have been determined by this location.
Je n’ai pu résister à l’idée de commencer à y ranger des petits outils et de la quincaillerie.
I couldn’t resist the idea of starting to fill it with small tools and hardware.
Une fois encore, le logo de revalorisation est tout à fait approprié pour ce projet !
Once again, the upcycling logo is undoubtedly applicable to this project !
