On m’a demandé comment je tracerais une étoile à 5 branches, et comment je la couperais de façon sécuritaire. Alors j’ai pensé partager les idées suivantes.
I’ve been asked how I would draw a 5 point star, and how I would cut it safely. So I thought about sharing the following ideas.
Je prends une lame de scie de 40 dents, un chiffre qui se divise par 5 (pensez 5 branches).
I grab a 40 tooth saw blade, a number that can be divided by 5 (think 5 points).
Je trace un cercle d’un diamètre similaire sur une chute de contreplaqué.
I trace a circle on a plywood scrap about the same diameter.
40 divisé par 5 = 8.
Donc, je fais un trait à chaque 8e dent, tel que montré, pour obtenir cinq segments.
40 divided by 5 = 8.
Therefore I scribe a mark at each 8th tooth, as shown, to end up with five segments.
Avec une règle, je réunis les points et prolongent les lignes jusqu’aux bords du contreplaqué.
Using a ruler, I connect the marks and I extend the lines up to the plywood edges.
J’utilise mon gabarit à dégauchir maison pour faire des coupes de façon efficace et sécuritaire.
Remarquez l’alignement avec le bord du gabarit.
I’m using my homemade jointing jig to make the cuts a safe and effective way.
Notice the alignment with the edge of the jig.
Je hausse la lame de scie pour minimiser la profondeur des inévitables entailles arrières faites par une lame ronde.
I raise the blade to minimize the inevitable back overcuts made by a round blade.
Après cette première coupe, je pivote la pièce et procède aux quatre autres coupes.
After this first cut, I spin the piece and I proceed with the four remaining cuts.
Pour couper de l’autre côté des branches, je dois déplacer mon gabarit et le guide parallèle du côté gauche de la lame de scie.
To cut the opposite side of the points, I must move my jig and the rip fence on the left side of the saw blade.
Pas mal, non ?
En regardant bien, on peut constater qu’on pourrait également dessiner à partir d’un pentagone régulier !
Not bad, right ?
You can observe that you could also start drawing from a regular pentagon !
Toutefois, l’envers est entaillé. Notez qu’un gabarit similaire pour la scie à ruban ne produirait pas ces entailles puisque cette lame coupe verticalement.
However, the back is a bit overcut. Take note that a similar jig for the band saw won’t produce those over cuts because this blade cuts vertically.
Pour obtenir des étoiles parfaites, alors celle-ci peut être utilisée comme patron.
La photo démontre comment dessiner une plus grande étoile avec une rondelle qui roule le long des bords.
To get perfect stars, this one can be used as a template.
The photo demonstrates how to draw a larger star with a washer running along all the edges.
Pour couper une étoile identique, utilisez une toupie (défonceuse) et la fraise à araser 1, et pour une obtenir une étoile plus grande, utilisez une toupie avec la grande bague de gabarit 2 et une mince fraise droite. Différentes bagues produiront différents formats.
To cut an identical star, use a router outfitted with the flush trim bit 1, and to get a larger star, use a router with the large guide bushing 2 and a narrow straight bit. Different bushings will produce different sizes.
Une autre méthode pour couper une étoile serait de suivre les lignes avec une toupie munie d’une fraise droite et un gabarit maison comme celui montré.
Another method to cut a star would be following the lines with a router outfitted with a straight bit and the shown homemade jig.
