Here is my lazy technique to prevent from using the depth stop of this drill press, which is fastidious.

For the demonstration only, I used a cloth pin (arrow) to temporarily keep this ‘imaginary clock’ (or scale) to the drill press (yes, just for you to easily understand in a glance).

I set the drill press table height in a manner that the drill bit will be just above the workpiece (arrow).

Then I lower the bit in line with the desired depth (black arrow) and I memorize the location of the drill press quill lever (red arrow) to finally drill.

  1. You have this large enough to see clearly Serge. I hope you are well as we not so gracefully age huh? My grip and hands are waiting for warm weather. Be well my friend.

    • We speak the same language, Don !

My sight as well as my grip and hands (to name only a few) aren’t what they were anymore. 🙂 Up here in Quebec warmer weather is not in sight yet. We have night freezing till the end of May.

      Best,

      • My weather is breaking (I hope). Our usual is 42 (F) night and 58 day. We have had freezing many times this year, down to the upper teens. With such high humidity, its darn cold. Anyway, I do hope your sight can be maintained and that you will be warm soon. Age is such a pain in the rear – I hit 75 two weeks ago. Best to you Serge.
