Je vais réaliser une ponceuse manuelle avec cette chute de pin de façon à y installer des courroies abrasives de 1″ par 30″ que j’ai sous la main, quoique toutes courroies peuvent être coupées à une largeur désirée.
Je vais tenter de produire un profil agréable et efficace avec ces pistolets de courbes.
I will fabricate a hand sander using that pine scrap so I could install on it 1″ by 30″ sanding belts that I have on hand, although any belt sizes can be cut to a desired width.
I will try to produce a nice and effective profile with those French curves.
Je planifie faire le corps un peu plus long que la courroie elle-même pour ensuite le réduire pour un ajustement parfait, l’inverse étant impossible, n’est-ce pas ?
I’m planning to make the body a bit longer than the belt itself to finally trim it down for a perfect fit, the opposite being impossible, isn’t it ?
J’ai choisi la scie à ruban pour la coupe grossière.
I chose the band saw for the rough cut.
Les courbes convexes seront finalement façonnées et adoucies à ma ponceuse à disque maison si appréciée.
The convex curves will be finally shaped and soften at my beloved homemade disk sander.
J’ai installé un tambour abrasif de 3″ dans ma perceuse à colonne pour les courbes concaves. Le plus gros tambour pour les plus grandes courbes.
I installed a 3″ sanding drum on my drill press for the concave curves. The larger the curves, the larger the drum.
Puisque le corps est plus large que la bande abrasive, je l’amincis à la dégauchisseuse.
Since the body is wider than the sanding belt, I narrow it down at the jointer.
Ensuite je fraise toutes les arêtes à la table à toupie (défonceuse) munie d’une fraise quart de rond de 1/8″.
Then I round over all the edges at the router table outfitted with a 1/8″ rounding over bit.
Maintenant je vais poncer une extrémité jusqu’à l’obtention d’une ajustement serré.
Now I will sand down one end until I reach a tight fit.
Je suis entièrement satisfait de l’ajustement. La patience est payante !
I’m completely satisfied with the fit. Patience is rewarding.
J’ai dû toutefois retourner à la table à toupie après cette dernière opération.
However I had to get back to the router table after this latter operation.
En prenant l’outil en main, la courbe du manche permet d’appliquer une pression pour tendre la courroie.
By holding the tool in the hand, the curve in the handle allows to apply a pressure to tighten the belt.
Si plus de tension est désirée, un goujon (tourillon) ou un bouchon de liège (ici synthétique) poussé vers le haut fait très bien le travail (et peut-être une cale biseautée !).
If more tension is desired, a dowel or a cork (here synthetic) pushed up the hill does the job (and maybe a wedge !).
Et voici mon nouvel outil prêt à l’emploi.
Le premier étant réalisé, il sera facile et rapide de le reproduire en l’utilisant comme patron.
And here is my new tool ready to use.
The first being done, it will be fast and easy to duplicate using it as a pattern.
