Compte tenu qu’il est rare que j’utilise des joints à tenon et mortaise lors de mes projets, l’achat d’un rabot à épaulement n’est aucunement justifié. Trop dispendieux.
Toutefois, pour obtenir des joints convenables et bien ajustés sans un tel investissement, j’en suis venu à me fabriquer ce que je pourrais aussi nommer une ponceuse à épaulement.
Since I barely use mortise and tenon joinery in my projects, the purchase of a shoulder plane is not justified. Too expensive.
However, to get appropriate and tight joints without such investment, I came up building what I could also call a shoulder sander.
J’ai fabriqué cet outil avec du ruban de papier à poncer, deux morceaux de bois de 1’’ par 1’’ par 8’’ et deux vis.
I made this tool with a strip of sandpaper, two 1’’ by 1’’ by 8’’ blocks of wood and two screws.

Il est essentiel que l’un des côtés le papier à poncer soit bien aligné avec les rebords d’un côté des morcaux de bois pour un ponçage affleurant jusqu’à l’épaulement.
It is essential that one edge of the sandpaper be flush with the edge of one side of the blocks of wood to be able to sand flush to the shoulder.
Le surplus de papier à poncer, non utilisé, dépasse du côté opposé. La partie non utilisée du papier à poncer peut être repositionnée ou pivotée pour obtenir à nouveau des grains de ponçage propres et frais.
The remaing sanding strip, non used, overhangs on the opposite side. The unused part of the strip can be repositionned or pivoted to get new fresh and clean grits.
